Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi administration has lodged 3,503 FIRs (First Information Reports), issued tickets to 1,009, sealed 574 premises, and imposed a fine of Rs 57,65,250 on violations of anti-dengue SOPs from January 1 to date in various areas of the Rawalpindi district.
District Coordinator of Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC) Dr Sajjad Mehmood said on Sunday that the district administration, in collaboration with allied departments, has taken these stern measures against dengue SOP violations in 2023.
Around 1,275 confirmed cases had been reported in the district this year, while the number was 107 in 2021 and 2,288 in 2022 during the period, revealed Dr Sajjad.
Health Officer further stated that presently 150 patients are admitted to the district’s hospitals, including 34 to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 43 to the District Headquarters Hospital, 67 to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH), three to Wah General Hospital, two to Kalar Syeda Hospital, and one to Taxila Hospital.
District Coordinator mentioned that 1,169 patients were discharged after treatment, while currently, 10 patients are in critical condition.
During the last day’s indoor vector surveillance, the teams checked 20,207 houses and larvae were detected at 1,005 sites. While checking 7,485 places, the teams found larvae at 103 spots during outdoor surveillance.
Dr Mehmood explained that puddles of water, which get stagnant due to rain, become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and spread diseases like malaria and dengue fever.
Sajjad also urged the residents to clean their water tanks and not leave any place wet with stagnant water.
Dengue fever is not a life-threatening disease but it can cause severe life-threatening complications if not treated properly, he added. Additional input from APP
