120 Pakistani Universities Shine in THE Impact Rankings 2025

News Desk

Islamabad: The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 have been announced, highlighting the world’s leading universities driving progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s rankings are the most extensive to date, with 2,526 universities from 130 countries and territories assessed on their contributions to sustainability. In a notable achievement, 120 universities from Pakistan made it to the list, underscoring the country’s growing focus on integrating sustainable development into higher education.

The University of Lahore emerged as a national frontrunner, securing a place among the top 150 universities globally. This marks a significant milestone for both the institution and Pakistan, reflecting a strong commitment to addressing global challenges through education and research.

Unlike conventional academic rankings, the THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on their performance across a range of SDGs—including climate action, quality education, clean and affordable energy, gender equality, and more. Each institution’s overall score is derived from its contributions across selected goals, offering a comprehensive picture of real-world impact.

A key global trend in the 2025 rankings is the continued rise of universities in East and South-east Asia, where institutions are rapidly scaling up their efforts in sustainable development and social responsibility.
