YouTube Introduces AI Age Check to Protect Young Users
News Desk
Islamabad: YouTube is launching a new artificial intelligence feature designed to estimate users’ ages, with the rollout beginning on August 13, 2025.
The feature is intended to create a safer and more age-appropriate experience by using machine learning to analyze user data such as account activity, video viewing history, and search behavior. If the system identifies a user as potentially underage, it will automatically apply age-based content restrictions.
Initially, the technology will be tested with a limited group of users in the United States. In cases where the AI cannot confidently determine a user’s age, individuals will be asked to verify they are over 18 by submitting official identification, such as a government-issued ID or a credit card.
YouTube plans to expand the feature to other countries based on the results of the U.S. trial.
According to the company, the system will provide better protection and a more tailored user experience, regardless of the birthdate listed on a user’s profile. However, some younger users may find the resulting content limitations restrictive.
