Shikapura: A married couple serving as deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), who were seriously injured during an armed encounter with dacoits in Sindh’s Shikarpur district, marked their wedding anniversary inside a hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).
DSP Dr Zahoor Ahmad Soomro and DSP Paras Bakhrani celebrated the occasion by cutting a cake arranged by family members and colleagues. Dressed in hospital gowns, the injured officers shared a moment of resilience, smiling despite their injuries and joining their bandaged hands to form a heart shape.
The couple was scheduled to celebrate their anniversary on December 9. However, on the same day, they were wounded in a gun battle with armed dacoits who were fleeing after allegedly robbing a citizen of Rs2.6 million.

DSP Paras Bakhrani has since been shifted from the ICU to a private room, while her husband has been discharged from the hospital. Despite his discharge, DSP Soomro remains at the hospital to care for his wife. Doctors have advised rest, and DSP Paras is currently unable to speak due to pain.
According to DSP Soomro, the incident occurred on December 7, when dacoits carried out a robbery in Shikarpur district. A joint operation was later launched by police and Rangers in the Manchhar Shah area, within the jurisdiction of Store Gang Police Station.
During the operation, armed dacoits used rocket-launchers to attack a police mobile van, critically injuring DSP Paras Bakhrani, DSP Soomro, and two other police personnel. Security forces responded with heavy fire, killing nine dacoits in the intense exchange.
Three of the slain dacoits were identified as Shahzad Sheikh, Shahmoor Sheikh, and Imdad Sheikh. Following the attack, additional police and Rangers contingents equipped with drones and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) were deployed as authorities cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to apprehend any remaining suspects.
The injured officers were shifted to a private hospital in Sukkur for medical treatment, where they are reported to be recovering.
