World’s Deepest Subway Station Opens to Commuters

News Desk

Islamabad: The municipality of Chongqing, situated in southwestern China, hosts the world’s deepest subway station, plunging 116 meters underground.

Due to significant air pressure differentials, frequent commuters on its stairs often find their ears popping shut. This sensation mirrors experiences during rapid descents, such as airplane takeoffs and landings, or driving on steep inclines.

While most subway stations don’t subject riders to such pressure changes, the exceptional depth of Chongqing’s station, equivalent to a forty-story building, can trigger this discomfort.

Notably, its construction concluded in 2022, following 400 days of intensive labor.
