Islamabad: The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has invited entries for a photographic competition to celebrate ‘World Tourism Day’ falling on September 27 this month.

The themes for the competition include tourist attractions in Pakistan, landscapes, culture and life, adventure sports, and flora and fauna, according to a news release issued by the PTDC office on Monday.

The last date for submitting the entries is September 15.  Winners will be awarded cash prizes and certificates in a ceremony on September 27 at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).

The entry submission form and details are available on the PTDC website and social media. The activities of World Tourism Day also include a conference to discuss various topics related to the tourism industry with experts and participants.

World Tourism Day is commemorated each year on September 27 to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value.

The day was designated by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in September 1979, with the commemoration to commence in 1980.

This date was chosen to coincide with an important milestone in world tourism: the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on 27 September 1970. The theme for this year is ‘Rethinking Tourism’.
