Women University Swabi Lifts Admissions Age Limit

Peshawar: Women University Swabi has waiver the upper age limit for enrolment to control dropout ratio, so there are no longer any age-related barriers for female applicants to the University’s departments.

The decision was made with the intention of preventing women from finishing their education after marriage or for other reasons from doing so.

The decision was made during the 25th meeting of the University’s academic council, which Vice Chancellor Shahana Arooj presided over. The meeting took various crucial decisions relating to the academic affairs of the institute and was attended by heads of all departments and administrative officers.

After the historic decision to admit women of all ages to the university, prospective students will be able to submit an application for admission based only on merit.

Also, it was resolved at the meeting that the university will raise the admission costs for MPhil and PhD students to Rs. 65,000 and Rs. 55,000, respectively, for the study of science and the humanities.

In Pakistan, participation rate of female education particularly at graduate level is low. According to a research, poverty, custom of early marriages, heavy domestic work and cultural norms against the female educational are the main causes of females’ dropout at graduate level of education.

Lack of education facilities required for females, media effects and fear of failure also increasing the dropout of female students.

For minimizing the dropout ratio among female students financial support, more job opportunities, media campaign and more education facilities were recommended.
