Abbottabad: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Abbottabad has successfully thwarted an attempted forced marriage case involving digital blackmail and harassment, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the accused, Shan Ali, illicitly obtained private photos and videos of a woman and used them to blackmail her into marrying him. In an effort to defame and pressure the victim, he shared the explicit content with her relatives via WhatsApp and Facebook.
The situation took a grave turn when Shan Ali allegedly threatened to leak the content to the victim’s father and local media if she refused to comply with his marriage demand.

Acting promptly on a complaint, the NCCIA team intervened and rescued the woman and her two minor children from a vehicle reportedly headed to a forced Nikkah (marriage) ceremony.
Shan Ali and his accomplice, Arshad, were arrested on the spot. During preliminary investigations, explicit material was recovered from Shan Ali’s mobile phone. He confessed to blackmailing and coercing the victim.
A case has been formally registered against the accused under Sections 20, 21, and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, along with relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Further investigations are currently underway.
