Will Salman Khan Play Dharmendra in a Biopic?
News Desk
Islamabad: Speculation is growing over whether Salman Khan will one day portray Dharmendra in a biopic, after an old interview of the late Bollywood icon resurfaced following his death on November 24.
Dharmendra — fondly remembered as the “He-Man of Bollywood” — passed away at age 89 after a prolonged battle with respiratory illness. He had recently been hospitalised at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, triggering a brief death hoax before his eventual passing was confirmed by filmmaker Karan Johar.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the film industry, a 2015 interview has re-emerged in which Dharmendra was asked who should play him if a biopic were ever made. Without hesitation, he had named Salman Khan.

“Salman Khan. I think he has a lot of characteristics similar to mine. He will be able to portray me onscreen perfectly,” the Sholay star had said — a remark that surprised many, given that he did not choose his actor-sons Sunny or Bobby Deol, nor nephew Abhay Deol.
Dharmendra and Salman shared an exceptionally close bond over the years. During his Da-Bangg Tour, Salman publicly credited the veteran actor as his greatest inspiration, saying, “Before I came along, there was only one person, and that is Dharam ji. He is my father, that’s the end. I love that man.” Dharmendra often referred to Salman as his “third son.”
With the passing of the legendary star, fans are now revisiting Dharmendra’s wish and wondering if Salman—currently 59—might someday honour it by bringing his life to the big screen. Industry watchers say the emotional connection between the two makes Salman a natural and compelling choice if such a project is ever developed.

While major Bollywood figures including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Ameesha Patel and others have mourned the loss, Salman Khan has so far not issued a public statement.
For many in the film fraternity, Dharmendra’s death marks the end of an era — and the possibility of a biopic featuring Salman Khan is now seen as a potential tribute that could celebrate his extraordinary legacy.
