West Indies: In a defining moment for Caribbean cricket, the West Indies introduced one of their brightest young prospects, Jewel Andrew, during the first T20I against Pakistan—an occasion that marked not just his international T20 debut but also a new chapter in the region’s cricketing future.

At just 18 years and 236 days, the Antiguan became the youngest T20I debutant for the West Indies, an achievement that adds to a growing list of records in his burgeoning career.

A Star in the Making

Born on December 7, 2006, Jewel Andrew’s journey from the cricket grounds of Antigua to the international stage has been swift and inspiring. Raised in a sports-oriented family, Andrew’s early years were marked by an innate passion for cricket.

He honed his skills playing local matches, gradually earning recognition for his composed batting and agile wicketkeeping.

His natural talent and technical finesse—particularly his sharp footwork and clean strokeplay—soon set him apart.

A right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, Andrew represents the Leeward Islands in domestic cricket and plays franchise T20 for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. His exploits in domestic tournaments quickly caught the eye of national selectors.

Making Headlines at the U19 World Cup

Andrew first grabbed international attention during the 2024 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Representing the West Indies U19 squad, he lit up the tournament with a blistering 130 off 96 balls in the opening match against the hosts.

That innings not only underscored his temperament under pressure but also established him as one of the standout performers of the tournament.

Fast-Tracked to the Top

Building on his U19 success, Andrew was fast-tracked into the senior national setup. In October 2024, he made his ODI debut—becoming the youngest West Indies player to do so. Less than a year later, he broke another record by earning his first T20I cap in the series against Pakistan in 2025.

He made an immediate impact, scoring a spirited 35 off 33 deliveries on debut, including three towering sixes and a boundary. His fearless approach and confident strokeplay made headlines, with many hailing him as the future face of West Indies cricket.

Rising in the CPL

Andrew’s ascent isn’t limited to the international stage. In 2024, he debuted in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

Not only did he become the youngest-ever CPL player, but he also made history as the second-youngest cricketer to score a fifty in a major T20 league—hitting an unbeaten 50 from just 30 balls on debut.

With a calm demeanor, athleticism behind the stumps, and the ability to clear the ropes with ease, Jewel Andrew embodies the new wave of talent emerging from the Caribbean. His quick rise through the ranks, coupled with record-breaking performances, signals a revival of West Indies cricket’s youth-driven legacy.

For fans and selectors alike, Andrew isn’t just a name to watch—he’s a player already making his mark. And at only 18, his cricketing story is just beginning
