Which iPhones Will Work on Apple’s iOS 18?
News Desk
Islamabad: Apple is gearing up to unveil its latest operating system in June, promising significant advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
However, not all iPhone models will be compatible with this new iOS version, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Older iPhones manufactured before 2018, including the SE series and the 8 Plus model or earlier, will not be able to run the upcoming iOS 18. This limitation is attributed to their outdated hardware components, featuring slower processors and less RAM, which cannot adequately support the powerful features of iOS 18.
The iOS 18 update, touted as Apple’s “largest” upgrade to date with massive language models and other AI technologies, was first introduced alongside the iPhone XR and iPhone XS models in 2018.
Devices intending to run iOS 18 must be equipped with an A12 Bionic chip. Unfortunately, iPhones using the A11 Bionic chip (such as the iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus) and the A10 Fusion chip (found in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus) possess slower processors compared to later models, rendering them incapable of effectively supporting the update.
While Apple typically discontinues support for older iPhone models that cannot keep pace with the latest iOS release, the company has decided to continue supporting the seven and eight series this year. Users whose iPhones are not part of the 11 through 15 series or the second and third generation SE, XR, XS, or XS Max can expect to lose access to iOS 18 and all subsequent software updates.
