WhatsApp’s New Group Feature Explained
News Desk
Islamabad: WhatsApp has introduced a new feature titled “Group Message History” aimed at improving the user experience in group chats by helping newly added members quickly catch up on recent conversations.
The update allows group admins and members to share a selection of recent messages with new participants when they join a group. Instead of relying on screenshots or manually forwarding older messages, users can now send a curated set of previous chats to provide context.
According to the platform, admins will have the option to share between 25 and 100 recent messages, depending on the level of activity in the group. The feature is optional, and administrators can choose whether or not to enable message history sharing in their groups.
WhatsApp has emphasized that the feature maintains its end-to-end encryption standards, ensuring that privacy and security remain intact even when past messages are shared.
When message history is sent, all group members are notified, and the shared messages are clearly marked with timestamps and sender details to distinguish them from regular chat activity.
The rollout of Group Message History is being carried out gradually. The company says the feature is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance group communication tools while preserving user privacy and maintaining seamless conversations.
