WhatsApp Outage Hits Millions Across the Globe

Islamabad: Messaging giant WhatsApp experienced a major global outage on Tuesday night, disrupting communication for millions of users across several countries.

According to Downdetector, a website that monitors online service disruptions, the first reports of the outage surfaced around 7 pm (Pakistan time), with complaints rapidly surging within an hour.

Users in Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Italy, Peru, and Costa Rica were among those reporting issues. Many said their chats failed to load and messages could not be delivered on both the mobile and web versions of the app.

In Pakistan, the outage peaked around 8 pm, with over a hundred reports of connection failures. Thousands of similar complaints were recorded globally.

Downdetector’s data suggested that more than 80 percent of the reported problems were linked to WhatsApp Web, indicating that browser-based users were the most affected, Mirror UK reported.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or when services would be fully restored.

WhatsApp, which has more than three billion monthly active users worldwide, is one of the most widely used messaging platforms for personal and business communication.
