WhatsApp Launches Google Account Backup Feature

News Desk

Islamabad: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature that allows users to back up their data including messages, photos, videos, and documents—via Google accounts, ensuring important information is retained.

Since WhatsApp is widely used for messaging, calling, and sharing files, having a backup and recovery option is essential when switching devices or upgrading to a new phone.

The good news is that users can now easily recover their data from Google accounts with just a few simple steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  2. Go to Settings and scroll down to the Chats section.
  3. In the Chats section, select Chat backup.
  4. Choose the Google account where you’d like to back up your data.
  5. Tap Back Up to start the process.

This will upload all your WhatsApp data to the cloud. The time it takes will depend on your internet speed. Once the backup is complete, you can restore it on your new device by selecting the “Search for Backup” option and then choosing Restore Backup. Your chat history and media files will now be securely transferred to your new device.

Please note that this feature supports only Android-to-Android or iPhone-to-iPhone transfers.
