WhatsApp Ends Support for iOS 12 Devices
News Desk
Islamabad: WhatsApp has announced that it will discontinue support for older iOS versions and certain iPhone models, including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, as reported by WABetaInfo.
This decision is part of the messaging platform’s ongoing efforts to embrace the latest technological advancements and improve user experience.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop supporting iOS versions earlier than 15.1 starting May 5, 2025. Currently, the app is compatible with devices running iOS 12 and newer versions.
After the update, users will need at least iOS 15.1 to continue using WhatsApp. iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus users, who can only update to iOS 12.5.7, will no longer be able to access the app after that date.
The decision to phase out support for older iOS versions is part of WhatsApp’s strategy to take advantage of updated APIs and technologies in newer iOS versions.
These updates enable the platform to enhance performance, introduce new features, and provide a smoother experience for users.
The limitations of older iOS versions, which cannot support the necessary APIs for these improvements, have prompted WhatsApp to focus its efforts on devices running more recent operating systems.
Additionally, WhatsApp’s analysis shows that a relatively small portion of its user base relies on older iOS versions, allowing the platform to allocate resources more efficiently and enhance the app for the majority of users.
