WhatsApp Begins Rolling Out Voice, Video Calling on Web App
News Desk
Islamabad: WhatsApp has started rolling out support for voice and video calls through its web app, allowing users to make calls directly from their browsers without downloading a desktop application.
Until now, WhatsApp Web was limited to text-based messaging, despite being a widely used option for accessing chats on computers. However, according to reports by WABetaInfo, the platform is now introducing calling features, marking a significant expansion of its web-based functionality.

The new feature adds dedicated “Voice” and “Video” call buttons within individual chats. While the calling option is currently available to a limited number of users, it is still under development to ensure a smooth and bug-free experience.
Reports indicate that calls made through WhatsApp Web support screen sharing and maintain the platform’s end-to-end encryption standards. The feature is also expected to work across multiple operating systems, including Linux, which does not currently have an official WhatsApp desktop app.
WhatsApp has not announced a timeline for a wider rollout, but the update is expected to enhance the convenience of using the service across devices and reduce reliance on standalone desktop applications.
