Islamabad: Laila, the iconic and glamorous film heroine of yesteryear, recently shared some deeply personal revelations during an appearance on actress Sahiba’s podcast.
She disclosed that her birth name is Saira, but she adopted the screen name Laila when she entered the film industry.
She recounted how she was initially offered roles in films by Shamim Ara and Syed Noor after they noticed her at an event, despite her youthful appearance at the time.
Laila reminisced about her debut in the film industry, where she played the younger sister of renowned stars Reema and Meera.
However, she expressed frustration at being typecast into bold and glamorous roles throughout her career, feeling that filmmakers overlooked her other talents.
On a more personal note, Laila shared the tragedies she endured, starting with the loss of her mother a decade ago.
She then suffered the devastating loss of her brother Umar, who was not only a makeup artist but also a director. Laila suspected foul play in her brother’s death, suggesting he may have been poisoned by enemies.
Tragically, another brother, whom Laila regarded as a son, succumbed to asthma at the young age of 22.
These losses deeply affected her, culminating in the death of her father during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subsequently, Laila found herself stripped of her assets, with her houses and vehicles worth millions taken away, leaving her homeless overnight.
Amidst these hardships, Laila expressed gratitude towards actor Ahsan Khan, who offered her support and guidance during her darkest days.
She also revealed how a God-fearing Syed family provided her with shelter and spiritual healing, helping her rebuild her life from scratch.
Laila’s journey reflects the highs and lows of life in the limelight, showcasing both the glamour of her career and the profound challenges she faced off-screen.
