What Happened to Lost Gold at Islamabad Airport?

Islamabad: Staff at Islamabad International Airport earned praise for their honesty and professionalism after recovering and returning valuable belongings to passengers in two separate incidents this week.

In the first case, a passenger identified as Ms. Bibi, who arrived from Madinah on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight on January 18, reported the loss of her gold necklace in the Arrival Hall.

The Directorate of Flight Operations (DFO) Arrivals team acted swiftly and recovered the necklace, weighing approximately two tola and valued at around Rs 1 million.

The item was deposited with the airport’s Lost and Found section, and through coordinated efforts, the passenger was contacted and the necklace was safely returned to her.

In another incident on January 21, an NKC cleaning staff member, Abdul Shafeeq, found a passenger’s pouch at International Arrivals, Belt No. 5.

The pouch belonged to a traveler who had arrived on an Etihad Airways flight and contained a wallet, identification card, AirPods, USD 10,000 in cash, and SAR 5,000.

Abdul Shafeeq immediately handed over the recovered items to the DFO counter. With the assistance of Airport Services (APS), the passenger was traced and all belongings were duly returned.

Airport management lauded the staff for their integrity and dedication. The Chief Operating Officer and Airport Manager commended Abdul Shafeeq for his exemplary conduct and awarded him a cash prize in recognition of his ethical behavior.

The incidents reflect the strong values, sense of responsibility, and commitment to passenger trust demonstrated by the staff of Islamabad International Airport, bringing credit to the Pakistan Airports Authority.
