Islamabad: TikTok has recently updated its community guidelines, introducing stricter rules regarding the display of potentially harmful content.
This includes limitations on showcasing dating, drug use, sexual exploitation, violence, and hateful materials.
These restrictions apply not only to minors but also to adult users, who will no longer encounter such content in their feeds or receive recommendations for it from the app’s algorithm.
The platform revised its guidelines last month in April and began enforcing the new rules from May 17.
This move aims to address conflicts that have arisen in different regions due to the visibility of dangerous content. Additionally, under the updated guidelines, various challenge content will also be excluded from users’ feeds.
According to TikTok’s issued list, content related to weight loss methods and exercises for heart diseases will not be visible or recommended.
Explicit videos and images, as well as content focusing solely on displaying underwear or bikini bodies under the guise of fashion, are also prohibited.
The revised guidelines extend to content involving gambling, drugs, alcohol, smoking, and similar topics. Moreover, accounts of users under the age of 13 will have highly restricted content, with only suitable material for children being showcased.
