Islamabad: Rain in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad made the weather pleasant, while rain and snowfall in several other regions caused a noticeable drop in temperatures, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Abbottabad, Haripur and nearby areas received rain accompanied by strong winds, increasing the intensity of cold. Intermittent rainfall continued in Kundian and surrounding areas, where water accumulated in low-lying localities. In the upper regions, snowfall was reported in Nathiagali, Thandiani and adjoining areas, with cold winds persisting throughout the day.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that rain and snowfall are likely to continue for the next 24 hours, while weather forecasters predict wet conditions in different parts of the country over the next two days.
A spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that rain and snowfall are expected in various areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir over the next 48 hours. Rain is likely in several districts of Punjab on February 9 and 10, while snowfall is expected in mountainous areas, including Murree.
The NDMA further warned that rain is expected in cities including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum, while southern Punjab may experience hailstorms accompanied by strong winds. Authorities have cautioned that rainfall could lead to slippery roads and disruptions to traffic in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, urging citizens to take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reported that the entry of westerly winds into the country may increase wind speeds in Karachi.
The city’s weather is expected to remain partly cloudy today, with light rain or drizzle likely on Monday. Similar conditions are also forecast for other coastal areas of Sindh, including Badin and Thatta.
