Weather Advisory Issued for Lewis County Sunday, Monday

Lewis County: The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Lewis County, effective from 1 am Sunday to 1 am Monday.

Forecasters are predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow, beginning late Saturday night and continuing through Sunday evening. Authorities warn that travel could be hazardous due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. Ice accumulation on power lines and tree branches may also create additional risks.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution by slowing down, allowing extra travel time, and staying alert for icy patches.

Winter driving safety tips from the National Weather Service include: 

Share your travel plans: Inform family or friends of your destination, planned route, and estimated arrival time.

Prepare your vehicle: Keep a full gas tank and carry essentials such as a windshield scraper, jumper cables, shovel, flashlight, blanket, warm clothing, water, and high-calorie food.

Stay calm if stranded: Remain in your vehicle, notify someone of your location, and use lights or a cloth to signal for help. Avoid walking to safety.

Be cautious around snow plows: Give plows space and only pass when it is safe to do so.

Check road conditions: Verify current road conditions before starting your journey.

Authorities advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during the advisory period and take these precautions seriously to reduce the risk of accidents.
