WASA on High Alert to Deal With Urban Flooding

Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has been put on high alert to cope with urban flooding after heavy rainfall on Sunday night in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, said WASA Managing Director Muhammad Tanveer on Monday.
Muhammad Tanveer informed that Rawalpindi and Islamabad received heavy rain on Sunday night, and all arrangements are being finalised by the agency to deal with the flash flood.
According to rainfall gauging stations, the rainfall recorded at different stations is as follows:

Meanwhile, water level sensor data showed 10 feet (ft) at Kattarian and 9.5 feet at Gawalmandi, and a pre-alert for the Gawalmandi area was issued at 4.18 am.
WASA personnel were deployed in different city areas along with heavy machinery, Muhammad Tanveer further stated, adding that the staff was present at Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk, Waris Khan Sadiqabad, and along Nullah Lai.
Managing Director added that the water level in Nallah Lai is being monitored regularly. The water level has come down to 5ft at Kattarian and 4ft at Gawalmandi at 7.55 am on Monday.
