WASA on High Alert to Deal With Any Emergency

Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi was put on high alert to deal with any emergency as intermittent rain continued in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday.
According to WASA Managing Director, Muhammad Saleem Ashraf, a rain emergency was also declared.
More than 25 mm of rain was recorded in Rawalpindi on Friday, Muhammad Saleem Ashraf informed the media.
He mentioned that according to the Meteorological Department, there were recorded rainfall amounts of 21 mm at Saidpur, 19 mm at Golra, 18 mm at Bokra, 18 mm at PMD, and 22 mm at Shamsabad, with Chaklala experiencing 22 mm of rain.
In low-lying areas, WASA teams were actively involved in draining rainwater using heavy machinery, he reported.
Regarding Nullah Lai, the MD noted that the water level at Kattrian was 5 feet, while at Gawalmandi Bridge, it was 4 feet at 9:20 p.m.
He directed the concerned officers to monitor the situation closely and assured that all necessary arrangements had been made to handle any emergency.
The MD of WASA personally visited various areas to oversee field operations aimed at clearing stagnant rainwater.
Additionally, WASA was placed on high alert following a rain forecast by the Meteorological Department for Rawalpindi.
Consequently, a rain emergency was declared, and the field staff’s holidays were canceled. Heavy machinery and staff were deployed, especially in low-lying areas.
He noted that WASA officials were actively involved in draining rainwater from these areas and mentioned that there were no major complaints of stagnant rainwater due to the light rain.
He added that the Meteorological Department had predicted more rain, for which WASA had completed all necessary preparations.
