WASA on High Alert as More Rains Forecast in Rawalpindi

News Desk

Rawalpindi: Despite a drop in water levels following a late-night cloudburst on Monday, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and local administration in Rawalpindi remain on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain in the coming week.

According to a WASA spokesperson, the water level in Nullah Leh surged to 15 feet at Katarian and 15.5 feet at Gawalmandi bridges during the downpour, but has since receded. However, all operational teams are continuing emergency measures to manage potential flood threats.

Rainfall recorded in various areas included:

Saidpur: 30 mm

Golra: 39 mm

Bokra: 25 mm

PMD (Sector H-8): 78 mm

Shamsabad: 70 mm

Katcheri: 38 mm

Pir Wadhai: 54 mm

WASA Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf oversaw drainage efforts in low-lying and high-traffic areas soon after the rain began.

Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, Housing Secretary Noor ul Amin Mengal, and Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema also monitored the operations on-site.

The spokesperson credited the smooth flow of floodwater to the timely de-silting and dredging of Nullah Leh, which helped prevent major urban flooding.
