Vocalist Amjad Parvez Passes Away in Lahore at 79

Islamabad: Prominent vocalist Dr Amjad Parvez has passed away at the age of 79 in Lahore.
He had been battling kidney disease for an extended period and was under medical care in a private hospital.
The funeral prayers for the singer will be held today (February 4) at his residence near Shadman Main Boulevard Mosque after the Zuhr prayers.
Dr. Amjad Parvez began his musical career by joining the pop band The AayJays during the 1970s. His notable compositions include ‘Tera Lotta Shahr Bhambur’ and ‘Jo Bhi Kuch Hai Mohabbate Ka Phalau Hai’.
Aside from his musical contributions, Dr. Amjad Parvez authored eight books on music, such as “Melody Makers of the Subcontinent,” “Symphony of Reflections,” and “Rainbow of Reflections.” In recognition of his achievements, he was honoured with the Pride of Performance Award in 2000.
Born in 1945 on Fleming Road, Lahore, Dr Amjad Parvez pursued engineering as his profession and earned a Ph.D. He hailed from an academic background, with his father being a chemistry professor at Islamia College, where his maternal grandfather had also served as principal before the partition of India.
His educational journey included matriculation from Central Model School in 1960, followed by intermediate studies at Government College Lahore, and a graduation in mechanical engineering from UET in 1967. He further pursued his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham.
Dr. Amjad Parvez’s musical journey commenced as a child artist at Radio Pakistan Lahore station in 1954. He later received training in vocals from Ustad Salamat Ali and other renowned musicians.
