Peshawar: As Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan prepares for his much-anticipated return to cinemas with King, an old chapter of his family history has resurfaced online, drawing renewed attention to his ancestral roots in Peshawar.

A video showcasing the actor’s ancestral home in the historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar area has gone viral on social media, sparking conversations about memory, migration and life before Partition.

The modest, weathered house — located in the narrow, bustling lanes of old Peshawar — is believed to be the birthplace of SRK’s father, Meer Taj Mohammad Khan. The footage was shared on Instagram by Pakistani content creator Laraib Explores, offering viewers a glimpse into the closely packed buildings and distinctive architecture that characterize the city’s old quarters.

According to media reports, Shah Rukh Khan spent several holidays at the Peshawar house during his teenage years while visiting relatives from Delhi. His first cousin, Noor Jahan, who still resides there, has reportedly traveled to Mumbai twice to meet the actor.

In past interviews, Khan has spoken fondly about his visits to Peshawar and expressed a desire to take his children to see his family’s hometown. Reports suggest that he visited the ancestral home with his father when he was 13 and again at 15 years of age in the late 1980s.

The Qissa Khwani Bazaar area is also known for housing the ancestral haveli of legendary actor Dilip Kumar, which has been declared a national heritage site in Pakistan.

The resurfaced video has reignited public interest in Shah Rukh Khan’s cross-border heritage, highlighting enduring cultural and familial ties that trace back to pre-Partition India.
