Peshawar: Another tragic incident of targeted violence has claimed the life of a transgender person in Peshawar, raising serious concerns over the safety and rights of the transgender community in Pakistan.
According to rescue sources from the Edhi Foundation, the victim—identified as Farhan, child of Gul Zadda and a resident of Swat district—was fatally shot by unidentified assailants near Siddiq Colony, close to the Lahore Bus Stand on GT Road, Peshawar.
Police reached the scene shortly after the attack and shifted the injured person to the hospital, where medical staff pronounced them dead on arrival. An FIR has been registered, and police have launched an investigation to trace and arrest those responsible for the attack.
The killing has sparked outrage among human rights defenders and transgender rights activists, who are calling for immediate justice and stronger protective measures for the transgender community, which continues to face violence, discrimination, and social marginalization across the country.
Advocacy groups have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to treat this case as a hate crime and ensure that those behind the attack are swiftly brought to justice.
They also emphasize the urgent need for effective implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018, to safeguard the lives and dignity of transgender citizens.
