Ushna Shah Urges Punjab CM to End Animal Cruelty
News Desk
Lahore: Actress Ushna Shah has written an open letter to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, calling for urgent measures to prevent cruelty against animals in the province.
Sharing the letter on her Instagram account, Ushna Shah praised the chief minister’s efforts in improving cleanliness, public safety, and women’s protection.
However, she highlighted what she described as a neglected issue, the ongoing mistreatment of animals in Punjab.
The actress referred to a recent viral video showing a dog tied to a vehicle and dragged along a main road, describing the footage as “disturbing.”
She noted that repeated incidents of animal abuse have created a perception among social media users that the provincial government is failing to take preventive action.
Ushna Shah also cited other reported cases, including organised dog fights, abuse of donkeys, and mistreatment of animals in markets.
In her letter, she proposed several measures to curb such incidents, including strict enforcement of existing animal cruelty laws, banning the domestication of wild animals, and launching awareness programmes across the province.
Urging the chief minister to demonstrate compassion toward animals in line with Islamic teachings, Ushna Shah expressed hope that strong action in Punjab could set an example for the rest of the country and encourage other provincial leaders to follow suit.
