USA’s First Knockout Match: Elite Umpires Announced
News Desk
Islamabad: Chris Gaffaney and Richard Kettleborough, both members of The Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, will be the on-field umpires for the USA’s historic first-ever knockout match at an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against South Africa on June 19.
The co-hosts qualified in second place from Group A, partly due to a thrilling Super Over victory against Pakistan.
They will now compete in Group 2 of the Super 8s against South Africa, England, and fellow co-hosts West Indies, according to a press release.
Joel Wilson will serve as the TV Umpire for the USA vs. South Africa match and will be on-field alongside Gaffaney when the American team faces England in Barbados on June 23. Allahudien Paleker, making his senior men’s tournament debut, will act as the fourth umpire.
On the same day, Kettleborough will return to the field for the significant Group 1 clash between Australia and India, alongside compatriot Richard Illingworth.
Illingworth and Michael Gough will officiate Australia’s Super 8s opener against Bangladesh, while Nitin Menon and Ahsan Raza will be the on-field umpires for England’s match against the West Indies.
Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, making history as the first Bangladeshi official at an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will be the TV Umpire for the England vs. West Indies match and will serve as on-field umpire alongside Chris Brown for England’s second Group 2 game against South Africa.
Jeff Crowe of The Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, who has overseen more T20Is than anyone else, will be the match referee for England’s matches against the West Indies and South Africa, as well as Australia against India.
