Islamabad: The United States has reiterated its neutral stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, choosing not to take sides as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Addressing a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Washington is closely monitoring the evolving situation. “We are not taking any immediate position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue. The situation between the two countries is dynamic, and we are following developments closely,” she stated.

Speaking about the recent Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of over two dozen tourists, Bruce strongly condemned the violence. “Those responsible must be held accountable,” she emphasized, offering condolences to the victims’ families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
When questioned about former US President Donald Trump’s previous offer to mediate on the Kashmir dispute, Bruce declined to elaborate. “President Trump and the Secretary of State have already expressed their views, and I have nothing further to add at this time,” she said.
In response to a separate query on Middle East policy, Bruce confirmed the US commitment to ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches Gaza, while preventing it from being exploited by terrorist groups. She also noted that the next round of nuclear negotiations with Iran is scheduled to take place in Oman, describing earlier rounds as “positive and productive.”
