Switzerland: Switzerland has stated that recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran constitute a violation of international law, expressing concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

In an interview published on Sunday, Swiss Defense Minister Martin Pfister said the strikes carried out by United States and Israel against Iran breach international legal principles.

Pfister noted that the Federal Council believes the attacks violate the fundamental international principle prohibiting the use of force. He emphasized that all countries must respect this rule, adding that both the United States and Israel failed to adhere to it.

“By conducting airstrikes on Iran, the United States and Israel have also violated international law, just as Iran has,” Pfister said.

Switzerland, a country known for its long-standing neutrality—including during World War I and World War II—called for adherence to international norms and restraint amid rising tensions.

Other European leaders also voiced concerns over the legality of the conflict. German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said he has serious doubts about the legal basis of the military actions.

“The world is entering a dangerous era where rules are disappearing and only the law of the strong prevails,” Klingbeil warned.

Meanwhile, Spain described the US and Israeli bombing campaign as irresponsible and illegal.

Experts speaking to Arab media outlets argued that the attacks violate the United Nations framework, particularly the United Nations Charter, which prohibits acts of aggression unless justified under self-defense or authorized by the UN Security Council.

They added that there appears to be no clear legal justification for the strikes under international law.
