US Homeland Chief Defends Female Secret Agents

News Desk

Washington: US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other officials responded strongly on Saturday to attacks against female Secret Service agents after criticism arose following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Mayorkas denounced the criticisms as “baseless and insulting” after some right-wing commentators questioned the presence of women in law enforcement and accused the Secret Service of having “woke” hiring practices that they claim nearly led to the former president’s death.

Mayorkas praised the “highly skilled and trained” women in law enforcement, emphasising their bravery and dedication. “They are brave and selfless patriots who deserve our gratitude and respect,” he further added.

The Secret Service has defended its standards and practices, and an independent review ordered by President Joe Biden is underway.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is set to testify before Congress on July 22. Despite the controversy, some right-wing figures acknowledged the courage of the Secret Service agents involved.
