Islamabad: The United States is closely monitoring the rising tensions between India and Pakistan after India conducted airstrikes on five locations within Pakistan, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio wrote on his official X timeline.

He echoed the sentiments of US President Donald Trump, who earlier expressed hope that the situation would de-escalate swiftly. “I echo the US President’s comments earlier today (Tuesday) that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution,” Rubio added.

On April 30, Secretary Rubio held a telephonic conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who outlined Pakistan’s perspective on the developments in South Asia since the Pahalgam incident.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep concern over India’s escalating and provocative actions, which he termed as deeply disappointing. He categorically rejected India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the incident and called for a transparent, credible, and neutral investigation to ascertain the facts.

The Prime Minister also lamented that India had resorted to weaponizing water, which serves as a vital resource for 240 million people in Pakistan. He emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty contains no provisions allowing either side to unilaterally abandon its commitments.
