UK Signs £400m Google Cloud Deal Ahead of Trump Visit

Islamabad: The UK government announced on Thursday that it has signed a £400 million ($543 million) contract with Google Cloud to enhance secure information sharing with the United States, just days before President Donald Trump’s visit.

According to the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the agreement will bolster secure communications between London and Washington, building on the long-standing intelligence and security ties between the two nations.

Under the deal, Google Cloud’s advanced technologies—including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cyber security—will be deployed to support defence intelligence and national security experts, strengthening cooperation between the allies.

The MoD highlighted that Google Cloud will also bring millions of pounds of inward investment to the UK, creating a dedicated specialist team in Britain to oversee the programme.

Defence Secretary John Healey emphasised that the system includes “strict data sovereignty and security controls,” ensuring that sensitive information remains firmly under UK authority.

Tara Brady, Google Cloud’s President for EMEA, said the partnership would give the UK government “robust and resilient infrastructure” while enabling it to “harness the latest technology innovations.” She added that it would accelerate the MoD’s digital modernisation without compromising security or sovereignty.

The announcement comes as Trump prepares for his upcoming state visit to the UK, with reports suggesting that several top US tech executives will accompany him.
