Two People Arrested For Damaging Great Wall Of China

Islamabad: Authorities in China detained two construction workers after using an excavator to dig a hole in the Great Wall of China.
According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’ report, the police in China’s Shanxi Province examined the marks of the machinery used to make a shortcut in a part of the wall which has been used by foreign attackers in the past. This wall was built by Chinese emperors in the past to prevent foreign invaders.
According to state media, the suspects admitted during questioning that they had used an excavator to cut down the travel time in the area by creating a shortcut in the wall.
The construction of the Great Wall of China first began in the 3rd century BC and continued for centuries. Divided into several sections, the wall stretches for thousands of kilometres in total.
Located about six-hour drive west of central Beijing, the affected section of the Great Wall was built during Ming Dynasty from the 14th to the 17th centuries.
State broadcaster CCTV reported yesterday that the suspects had caused “irreparable damage” to the wall which has been described as a section in relatively good condition despite the passage of time.
Images broadcast on Chinese TV showed the aftermath of the incident, where a road had been cut through a long, raised section of land, with piles of dirt atop what appeared to be the remains of the ancient wall.
Both suspects have been detained according to the law and the investigation into the matter is ongoing, informed CCTV.
