Two Killed in Smog-Related Accidents in DI Khan

DI Khan: Two individuals, including a young boy, lost their lives in separate traffic accidents caused by smog in Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.

The first accident occurred on Multan Road near Lunda Sharif, where a tractor collided with a motorcycle, killing 16-year-old Haqdar Ali instantly. Rescue 1122 teams arrived promptly and transported the body to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

In another tragic incident near a soap factory at Qureshi Morr, an eleven-year-old boy, Muhammad Usman, son of Ikram Ullah, was struck by a truck, resulting in his death. The child’s body was also taken to the DHQ hospital’s trauma center.

Factory Owners Booked for Contributing to Smog

Police in Faisalabad have filed cases against the owners of 17 factories, mills, and brick kilns for emitting excessive smoke, a primary contributor to smog.

On the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Kamran Adil, a campaign was launched to address pollution from industrial and vehicular sources.

Seventeen cases have been registered against violators, with CPO Adil urging the public to take protective measures, such as wearing masks, to guard against smog-related health risks.

Three Brick Kilns Sealed for Environmental Violations

In an unannounced inspection to enforce anti-smog regulations, Commissioner Maryam Khan sealed three brick kilns in Multan found emitting black smoke in violation of environmental laws. The inspection took place on Old Shujabad Road, where Khan was joined by Deputy Commissioner Waseem Hamid Sindhu and CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar.

The kiln owners were arrested on-site, facing hefty fines for non-compliance. Commissioner Khan expressed dissatisfaction with the inadequate monitoring of pollution sources and directed strict action against officials failing to enforce regulations.

She stressed the urgency of proactive measures to mitigate smog and safeguard public health.
