Two Killed as Wedding Feud Turns Deadly in Gujar Khan

Rawalpindi: Two people were killed in a shooting during a wedding ceremony in Gujar Khan on Friday, as Rawalpindi Police carried out multiple operations, arrested suspected gamblers, honoured a martyred constable, and reviewed police station record-keeping across the district.

According to a police spokesman, the fatal incident stemmed from a long-standing feud dating back to 2004. City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and sought a report from the SP Saddar, directing that the suspects be arrested immediately.

The ASP Gujar Khan and the local SHO rushed to the scene, where an altercation between two rival groups escalated into gunfire. One person from each group — identified as Zarid and Rehman — died on the spot. The bodies were shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said that those responsible would be arrested and presented before the court.

In a separate crackdown, Rawalpindi Police arrested 19 individuals allegedly involved in gambling. Gujar Khan Police detained 14 suspects and seized Rs22,500 in stake money, 14 mobile phones and playing cards.

Another three suspects were held by Banni Police, who recovered Rs5,480 in stake money, two mobile phones and gambling paraphernalia. Cases have been registered against all accused.

Police honour martyred Constable Sajjad Hussain Shah

At Wah Saddar Police Station, a ceremony was held to pay tribute to Constable Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, who was martyred during an encounter with armed robbers on June 12, 2025. SP Potohar Talha Wali laid floral wreaths at the memorial and offered prayers for the officer.

“Police martyrs are the nation’s benefactors. Their courage ensures the protection and continuity of the country,” SP Wali said, adding that their sacrifices would always be remembered.

SSP reviews investigation processes, record-keeping

Meanwhile, SSP Investigation Raja Nasir chaired a meeting at Police Lines Headquarters to review the performance of clerical and investigation staff. He directed teams to ensure timely preparation of challans, maintain both manual and digital records, secure witness attendance in courts and arrest fugitives involved in serious cases without delay.

“Addressing citizens’ issues on priority and ensuring the safety of life and property remain the foremost responsibilities of Rawalpindi Police,” he said.
