Two Cops Suspended For Manhandling BISP Female Beneficiaries

Peshawar: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan Muhammad Suleman suspended two police constables on Tuesday after their video of manhandling Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) female beneficiaries at the BISP office in Charsadda went viral on social media.

Taking notice of the video, the RPO directed District Police Office (DPO) Charsadda to hold a departmental action against the constables identified as Ayaz and Mohammad Zada, who were seen torturing women in the video.

He reiterated the resolve that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands, adding that the police force was a protector of citizens and any inhumane treatment of anyone would not be tolerated.

However, the video clip is just one side of the story. More than 100 burqa-clad women were present in a small room who were not following rules or listening to officials’ requests to stay in line and wait for their turn. The women were even trying to climb the desk, creating potential chaos. There were only two police constables dealing with more than 100 women gathered to receive the cash provided by the BISP.

It is the responsibility of security officials, regardless of gender, to maintain order and rules. It is also important for them to exercise their authority with professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights.
