Islamabad: Pakistan’s local broadcasting channel claimed to have launched the world’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) talk show with the introduction of two news anchors equipped with AI for the first time in the country’s history.

A YouTube channel called ‘Discover Pakistan’ stated that they are launching the world’s first AI talk show where all the anchors will be artificial intelligence anchors from different countries.

It has introduced one male and one female AI news anchor but whether these anchors are virtual or robotic, Discover Pakistan has not clarified.

Discover Pakistan Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Qaiser Rafiq said that it is a matter of honour for the country that Pakistan is making new history in the world of technology today.

Pakistan’s private news channel ‘New TV’ has also introduced an AI-robotic female news anchor. The news channel did not reveal the name of the AI news anchor.

Dr Qaiser also asked questions of the AI anchor. Interestingly, the face of the AI news anchor is similar to Dr Rafiq.

The channel shared the video of the first program of the AI talk show, in which Pakistani AI anchor Dr Kaiser invited a female AI news anchor named ‘Sarah’ and updated the latest situation in the capital Islamabad.

In addition, in the same program, an AI news anchor called ‘Stacey’ from Australia was invited, who praised the tourism of Pakistan and the beauty of the northern regions, Pakistani food and Pakistani culture.

When the CEO asked a question about the Swedish language, the AI anchor replied in Urdu that he is a Muslim AI anchor, he is not speaking Swedish because of the protest and the people of Sweden should understand that all religions should be respected.

Earlier, neighbouring India also introduced two robotic news anchors equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) in the same week. Two AI news anchors named ‘Sandriya’ and ‘Sana’ were introduced by two different news channels in the states of Orissa and Karnataka.

While India and Pakistan introduced the first AI anchor in April this year, China introduced the first AI-powered anchor in 2018.

In the last few years, there has been a surge in the introduction of artificial intelligence-equipped robotic anchors around the world, which has also raised fears of the end of human jobs.

Apart from this, some experts seem to warn of the dangers to journalism due to the mistakes of such anchors.
