Twin Cities Rain Alert: WASA Deploys Emergency Teams

Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has placed its operations on high alert in the twin cities in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall, Managing Director Azizullah Khan said on Saturday.
According to WASA, teams equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed in several low-lying areas, including Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk underpass, Murree Road and Sadiqabad, to prevent water accumulation and ensure smooth drainage during the rains.
Continuous monitoring is also being carried out at Nullah Lai, where the water flow is currently reported to be normal.
Emergency rain response teams have been mobilized to deal with any sudden flooding, while field officers are personally supervising drainage operations under the direction of the Managing Director to ensure prompt action in vulnerable areas.

WASA has appealed to citizens to cooperate by keeping manhole and drain covers open, avoiding the dumping of garbage in drains, and immediately reporting any emergencies through the WASA helpline.
The agency said its teams are working round the clock in low-lying localities to prevent waterlogging and minimize public inconvenience during the expected heavy rainfall.
DC Islamabad directs field inspections, drainage teams mobilized
Rain continued in several parts of the federal capital on Sunday, prompting the district administration to activate field teams and monitor the situation across the city.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon directed all Assistant Commissioners to visit their respective areas and review the on-ground situation following the rainfall.
According to a spokesperson for the district administration, rain was recorded in different sectors of the city during the day. The DC instructed officers to closely monitor roads, streets and residential areas to ensure that rainwater does not create problems for residents.
Special monitoring has been ordered for low-lying areas and drainage channels, which often face water accumulation during rainfall. Field staff have been directed to remain present in such areas and report any issues without delay.

The deputy commissioner also instructed sanitation teams to start drainage work immediately without waiting for complaints. Municipal staff were mobilized to remove rainwater from roads and streets to ensure smooth traffic flow and routine activities.
Officials said the district administration’s control system remained active, with officers sharing updates from the field. Assistant Commissioners have been directed to coordinate with sanitation teams and other departments in case of blocked drains or water accumulation.
The DC is personally monitoring the situation and has directed field officers to remain in their areas until the rain subsides and normal conditions are restored.
The district administration said these measures were aimed at keeping roads clear, preventing water buildup and ensuring a prompt response to any problems arising from the ongoing rainfall.
