Kyiv, Ukraine: Turkey on Friday proposed hosting a high-level summit involving the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, aiming to broker a breakthrough deal to end Russia’s over three-year invasion of Ukraine.
The invitation was swiftly dismissed by the Kremlin, which instead announced it would send a team of negotiators to Istanbul for a second round of direct talks with Ukraine scheduled for Monday.

However, Kyiv has yet to confirm its participation.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who maintains strong ties with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, has positioned himself as a key mediator amid former US President Donald Trump’s renewed push for a peace deal.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking during a visit to Kyiv, said, “We sincerely think that it is possible to cap the first and second direct Istanbul talks with a meeting between Mr. Trump, Mr. Putin, and Mr. Zelensky, under the direction of Mr. Erdogan.”
The proposal reflects Ankara’s ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue and negotiate an end to the conflict that has devastated Ukraine since 2022.
