Erie, United States: Donald Trump on Sunday called for a “violent” police crackdown on crime in the United States during a speech in Pennsylvania, while his White House rival Kamala Harris emphasized the need for immigration reform at a rally in Nevada.

Pennsylvania, a key swing state, is considered one of the most crucial battlegrounds for the upcoming November 5 presidential election, but Nevada also plays a pivotal role in the contest. Trump, the Republican former president and current candidate, held a similar rally in swing state Wisconsin on Saturday, repeating his dark, racially charged narrative of an America under siege by “violent migrants” and other criminals.

Trump recounted isolated but widely publicized incidents of daylight robberies in major cities, earning cheers when he said police should be “extraordinarily rough.” “Criminals have to be taught,” he said, suggesting this could be achieved “if you had one really violent day.”

He added, “One rough hour — and I mean real rough — the word would get out and it would end immediately.” Trump blamed liberal policies, claiming, “The police aren’t allowed to do their job” because “the liberal left won’t let them.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, addressed immigration reform at a rally in Las Vegas, emphasizing the economy, health care, and the need for a stronger border security approach. “As president, I will double the resources for the Department of Justice to go after transnational cartels,” Harris said, adding that Trump “did nothing to fix our immigration system” during his presidency.

As he did in Wisconsin, Trump painted a bleak picture of America, warning of a “massive number of savage criminal aliens” that he claimed Harris allowed to “invade” the country. He also cited a “big prison in the Congo” as a source of “a lot of people” entering the U.S. illegally, despite crime and illegal border crossings declining nationwide under President Biden, according to the FBI.

Trump, known for coining insulting nicknames for his opponents, repeated his claim that Harris is “mentally impaired.” “Crooked Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Sad. But lying Kamala Harris, honestly, I believe she was born that way,” Trump said to loud laughter from his supporters.

Harris, however, did not respond to Trump’s comments, focusing instead on her core campaign issues—protecting reproductive rights and boosting the economy. “When Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom, as president of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law,” she told supporters.
