Trump Says ‘Very Fair’ US-China Trade Deal in Sight

Washington: US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about reaching a “very fair” trade agreement with China, as both countries continue negotiations to redefine their economic relationship and avoid escalating tariffs.
“We’re doing fine with China. I think it’s going to work out very well. We’re right in step. I think we’re going to have a very fair deal with China,” Trump told reporters during a media interaction on Wednesday.
His remarks came following the latest round of US-China trade negotiations held in Stockholm on July 28–29, where both sides agreed to extend the suspension of additional import duties for another three months.
Previously, at a meeting in Geneva held on May 10–11, the two economic giants had agreed to reduce tariffs reciprocally by 115 percent for a 90-day period starting May 12.
This included up to a 30 percent reduction on Chinese imports to the United States and a 10 percent reduction on American goods entering China. That agreement is set to expire on August 12.
The recent extension of the tariff freeze signals a willingness from both Beijing and Washington to maintain dialogue and avoid further economic disruption.
The ongoing trade talks are part of broader efforts to stabilize the bilateral trade relationship, which has seen multiple rounds of tension, retaliatory tariffs, and negotiations in recent years.
