Islamabad: US President Donald Trump on Monday praised Pakistan’s military leadership and diplomatic role during the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement, describing it as a “historic achievement” aimed at ending years of conflict in the region.
Speaking at the post-summit news conference, President Trump referred to Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, as his “favourite” military leader, while also acknowledging the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the ceremony.
“My favourite Field Marshal from Pakistan is not here today, but the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, is with us. Come and express your thoughts,” Trump said, inviting the Pakistani premier to address the gathering.
The US president’s remarks highlighted Pakistan’s visible role in supporting the peace process and maintaining regional stability. He thanked Islamabad for its “constructive engagement” and consistent calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief in Gaza.
‘A historic day for peace’
Trump called the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement a “great honour” and “a historic day for the entire world.”
“The bloodshed in Gaza has stopped because of this accord. The time has come to rebuild Gaza, and we will all rebuild it together,” he said.
He also appreciated the mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt, acknowledging their significant roles in brokering the truce. “The Emir of Qatar and Egypt’s leadership have done a truly commendable job in making this peace possible,” Trump said.
Pakistan’s diplomatic recognition
Diplomatic observers noted that Trump’s mention of both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir reflected Washington’s acknowledgment of Pakistan’s quiet but active engagement in Middle East diplomacy. Pakistan has repeatedly called for a two-state solution and humanitarian assistance for Gaza under the UN framework.
Al-Sisi calls Gaza accord ‘historic document’
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who hosted the peace summit, praised Trump’s leadership and called the Gaza peace accord a “historic document” that would pave the way for lasting stability.
“The US president played an important role in achieving this truce. The Palestinians have the right to live in an independent state,” Al-Sisi said.
Trump reaffirms US strength
Trump also used the occasion to reaffirm American military might, stating, “The US military is the strongest army in the world,” while linking global peace efforts to US-led diplomacy.
He concluded by saying that the Gaza accord marked “a proud day for all nations who value peace over conflict.”
