Washington: US President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has appointed Tom Homan, a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director, to serve as the “border czar” in his incoming administration.
Homan will oversee immigration control efforts, including what Trump has promised will be the largest deportation operation in US history.
Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, emphasizing Homan’s experience in policing and controlling US borders.
Homan, a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s immigration policies, previously led ICE during part of Trump’s first term and has made headlines for his controversial stance on immigration.
As part of Trump’s hardline approach, Homan will oversee the deportation of undocumented immigrants, with a focus on enforcement measures.
Trump’s presidency has been marked by his strong rhetoric against undocumented migrants, which he claims contribute to rising crime and pose a security threat to the country.
Additionally, Trump confirmed that he offered Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik the position of US ambassador to the United Nations, which she has accepted.
Despite facing backlash for his divisive immigration stance, Trump remains firm in his policy goals and continues to shape his administration as he prepares for inauguration in January.
