Washington: Donald Trump has named Jamieson Greer as his trade envoy, a key role in advancing the president-elect’s economic agenda, with a focus on tariffs as a central tool in trade policy.
Trump praised Greer’s pivotal role during his first term in enforcing tariffs on China and other nations to address what he called unfair trade practices. “Jamieson played a key role during my First Term in imposing tariffs on China and others,” Trump said.
Greer, who previously served as chief of staff to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, was instrumental in implementing trade policies that saw the U.S. levy tariffs on billions of dollars’ worth of imports, particularly from China.
Greer’s experience also includes helping to negotiate the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA). Most recently, he was a partner at law firm King & Spalding.
If confirmed by the Senate, Greer will be tasked with executing Trump’s tariff strategy and leading trade negotiations during the upcoming administration. His appointment underscores the ongoing importance of tariffs in Trump’s approach to reshaping U.S. trade relationships, particularly with China.
