Islamabad: A short film featuring actor Adnan Siddiqui’s antagonistic character, along with the notable presence of the tree from the film ‘Jaman Ka Darakht,’ has secured a spot at the Cannes World Film Festival.
It’s important to highlight that while the Cannes Festival in France is renowned on a larger scale, the Cannes World Film Festival, though slightly less acclaimed, provides a platform for showcasing a diverse array of feature films, short films, and web series from around the globe. Despite being held in France, the Cannes World Film Festival does not carry the extensive history and global recognition of one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world.
Earlier, Pakistani feature films have earned recognition at the Cannes World Film Festival. Filmmaker Rafi Rashidi now confirms that his short film ‘Jaman Ka Darakht’ is among the selected entries for the upcoming festival.

The film is set to be screened alongside submissions from various countries, with awards presented across different categories.
The trailer for ‘Jaman Ka Darakht,’ unveiled in January, features Adnan Siddiqui portraying a negative character. The trailer showcases Siddiqui’s character, Kareem, engaging with women in the showbiz and fashion industry.
While the trailer might not fully reveal the film’s narrative, the director emphasized in the accompanying post that the story revolves around the dynamics of relationships and consent between men and women.
In this brief preview, Kareem, played by Adnan Siddiqui, is depicted as a influential figure in the media industry, simultaneously exploiting women. ‘Jaman Ka Darakht’ is penned by B Gill and produced by Faisal Kapadia, set to release under the directorial and production banner of Rafi Rashidi.
