Multan: Transporters in Multan have increased fares for passenger and goods transport services by 15 to 20 percent on various routes following the recent rise in petroleum prices.
Transporters said fuel prices have increased twice within a month, significantly raising operational costs. Although they initially considered a nearly 30 percent fare hike, they decided to limit the increase to about 20 percent in view of the public’s financial difficulties and rising inflation.
They said the continuous increase in diesel and petrol prices has severely affected the transport sector, while expenses related to vehicle maintenance, spare parts and other operational requirements have also surged.

According to the revised fare list, the fare from Multan to Lahore has been increased from Rs1,600 to Rs1,850, Multan to Muzaffargarh from Rs450 to Rs520, Multan to Kasur from Rs1,750 to Rs2,000, and Multan to Bhakkar from Rs1,000 to Rs1,200.
Similarly, the fare from Multan to Dera Ismail Khan has been raised from Rs2,200 to Rs2,500, Multan to Taunsa from Rs1,900 to Rs2,200, while fares for Multan to Jhang and Multan to Lodhran have increased from Rs500 to Rs600.
Transporters warned that fares could be revised again if petroleum prices continue to rise, though they said the current increase has been kept as low as possible considering the economic challenges faced by passengers.
