Peshawar: A 28-year-old transgender man, Shahab—known as Wafa—from Taro Jabba, was tragically shot dead on Saturday night in the Harichand area of Charsadda district following an attempted abduction. His driver, Naveed, sustained critical injuries in the incident.

According to Charsadda police, Wafa was returning from a wedding ceremony in Badragh, Harichand, when two men, including one identified as Shaukat and another unidentified accomplice, attempted to abduct him near the wedding venue gate.

When Naveed accelerated the vehicle to escape, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately. Wafa was struck by a fatal bullet to the head and died on the spot, while Naveed was critically injured.

Police arrived promptly at the scene and transferred both victims to the hospital. Legal action has been initiated against Shaukat and other unidentified suspects.

Expressing deep sorrow over the killing, transgender community leader Farzana Jan condemned the continuing violence targeting transgender individuals. She called on the government and human rights organizations to ensure the protection of the transgender community and demanded the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.
