Peshawar: In a significant step towards empowerment, Sheeba Hassan, a transgender woman, has opened a boutique business in Peshawar, offering a dignified alternative to traditional sources of income such as dance performances at parties.
The boutique, named Trans Collection, was inaugurated on Thursday in the Gulbahar area.
Farzana Riaz, President of TransAction Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officiated the launch and expressed hope that the initiative would inspire other transgender individuals to pursue businesses and skill-based earning opportunities.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous members of the transgender community from across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Trans Collection offers a wide range of luxury clothing, formal wear, lehenga sets, and jeans, catering to various age groups and personal preferences. The boutique also provides online shopping and home delivery services for customers.
Sheeba Hassan, who invested 1.5 million rupees to start the business, highlighted the financial challenges faced by many in the transgender community, who are eager to start businesses but often lack the necessary funding.
She called on both government and non-governmental organizations to support transgender individuals in their efforts to pursue honorable livelihoods.
Speaking about the significance of the new business, Farzana Riaz commented, “The opening of Trans Collection sends a strong message to society that the transgender community is capable of succeeding in any field, provided they receive the necessary financial and moral support.”
She also noted that in several districts, bans have been imposed on dance performances, forcing the transgender community to seek alternative income sources.
Riaz expressed confidence that Sheeba’s boutique would not only thrive but also serve as a source of inspiration for others in the community to develop skills and start their own businesses.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the success of Trans Collection and Sheeba Hassan’s entrepreneurial journey.
